Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: Pigpen's best show?

Tuff questiion, because if Pigpen did a particularly good version, chances are Jerry was on that night as well. The whole band i.e.

What was Pig's signiture number?

Alligator? Lovelight? Good Morning Little Schoolgirl?
Check out the 10-20-1968 Greek Theatre version of Schoolgirl.

There's a 30 minute+ version of Caution on the Fillmore 1969 bonus disc.

I love that rare song (on Birth of the Dead) "Keep Rolling By", and "Alice D. Millionaire" off the expanded debut album (even more than the 12-1-1966 version).

Gotta love the Rio Nido (9-3-1967) version of Midnight Hour, when towards the end, (stick with it!) Pigpen turns it into a dance with Bobby.

Maybe some of Pigpen's best performances weren't taped...

Somebody wrote that during the making of Anthem of the Sun, he did an exceptional version of Alligator, but the tapes weren't rolling!

I saw him do a great version of Easy Wind in 1970 at the Fillmore West that I haven't heard since.

I like the 8-6-1971 show a lot. Will check out those other suggestions for 1971 and 1972.

What show was he dosed at?
